Description
Hi All. For sale is a legendary2006 Subaru Legacy GT spec.B Sedan.
Only 500 such cars have been sold in the US, this one is number 484. Probably just a handful of such cars are still on the roads.
This auction is a relisting from earlier this year - the winning bidder paid the deposit but never picked up the car. Hence the starting price is now lower by the amount of the security deposit I’ve received.
In the meantime, I’ve moved from NJ to Atlanta, GA and was too busy with the move to re-list the car sooner. The rest of the description remains the same (as below). The car is now located in Atlanta, GA but still has NJ registration.
Description
:
My aim is to be as transparent as possible about the car's condition, feel free to contact me with any questions or for additional pictures. I’ve been owning this car for the past 9.5 years and put about 57K miles on it since then (got it with 120K miles). The main reason I’m selling it is that since COVID I’m working from home and almost don’t use the car at all. I’ve put maybe just around 1K miles on it over the past 2 years and am looking for reasons to drive it around at least once a week. Nobody in my family drives a stick and the car is not exactly meant for family road trips or for driving around the kids to their activities.
The car starts right up and runs strong, it has an OK physical appearance but bear in mind that the car is 14 years old and has 177K miles on it.
The car has a 2.5L 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine coupled with 5 speed manual transmission and a unique red-leather interior.
To the best of my knowledge, the car has never been smoked in, at least not during my ownership or the one of the previous owner.
A NJ inspection sticker is good till May 2023.
Maintenance
:
I’ve been changing oil every 4-5K miles using only Mobile1 fully synthetic oil. I (and to the best of my knowledge the previous owner too) have been using only premium fuel.
The previous owner changed the timing belt, water pump, etc. at 105K (records are available), hence these items have at least 25-30K of life left.
I’ve been changing the spark plugs (to NGK 6619 Iridium) a couple of times, plus various belts through the ownership.
The rest of the replacements are mentioned below in the relevant sections.
Mechanical condition
:
Engine
: engine runs strong but burns oil. Most likely the car needs a new Turbo. Neither I nor, to the best of my knowledge, the previous owner have replaced it, hence the chances are that it’s an original Turbo and at this mileage it’s most certainly gone.
Transmission
: new WRX STI clutch and flywheel were installed about 30K ago. Note that the WRX STI clutch/flywheel is different from the original (which is dual-mass) on this car but is simpler and by far more reliable. I have not been doing anything crazy (or racing for that matter) with the car and the clutch should still have plenty of life left.
Cooling system
: the radiator has been replaced about a year ago, hence the new coolant too.
Suspension
: about 20K ago, struts (TEIN Street Basis), two wheel bearings (front and back of the right side), ball joints and links have been replaced. No known suspension issues currently present.
Breaks
: about 20K ago, rotors, brake pads, front calipers have been replaced. No known brake issues currently present.
Tires
: 215/45ZR-18 CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 XL, have plenty of life left.
AC
: blows cold.
Exterior condition
:
Though I consider that the car has an OK appearance, given its age, looking at the pictures I can tell that they make it look rosier than it is and hide/smooth some defects.
Over the time of my ownership, I’ve never been in an accident but the car has been hit once in the parking lot, hence the dent in the rear bumper (see the pictures) and a small dent on the rear fender, by the left tail light. The previous owner has been involved in a couple of fender-benders but this has been fixed well.
Among obvious things, there is a rusty spot on the right rear fender (see the pictures). Interestingly, it was there when I bought the car 9.5 years ago and has not gotten much worse since then. Also there is some rust on the front fenders, right above the wheels (see pictures). My guess is that the car was lowered too much at some points and the wheels were touching the fenders during turns - again, it was like this when I purchased the car and it has not gotten much worse since then.
Other than that, there are multiple spots from the tree sap. I’m trying to remove them but some are still left.
There are also many small chips and scratches around.
Interior condition:
Overall interior condition is good with one large exception: the driver's seat, as can be seen on the pictures.
Auction terms and conditions:
The car is also offered for sale locally, hence I reserve the right to end the auction early.
Pick-up
: local pick-up is preferred but if you are willing to arrange the shipping, that works too. I cannot help with the shipping though.
Payment
: a 0 non-refundable PayPal deposit is due 24 hours upon the end of the auction. The full balance is due within 7 days after the auction in the form of a money order or cashier check. If the deposit or the full balance is not received within the above time frame, I reserve the right to offer the car to the next highest bidder or re-list it.
Warranty/Inspection/Test Drive
: the car has no warranty and is sold “AS IS”. I’m happy to meet with a prospective buyer for a pre-sale inspection/test drive but not for a post-sale inspection - the sale is final.
