Answer:8 x 20 means that the magnification is a 8 power, and the 20 is the size of the lens. I use this for hiking, and I can look across ridges that are around 1/2 to 1 mile away and it gives me pretty good detail of what I am looking at, I can see make out stumps and trees and brush quite well. It is basically 8 times greater than what you can look at with the naked eye. Hope this helps.
