    Bing & Grondahl 1961 Winter Harmony Christmas Plate - designed by Kjeld Bonfils, has the titleWinter Harmony.
    Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1961 depicts one of the small wild animals in Denmark, the squirrel. The squirrel is eating a pine cone from the tree in which it sits. This motif is taken from the old nursery rhyme, which begins " Tiny squirrel sat so happily on her bench".
    The church shown in the background is Kundby church near Holbæk on Zealand, a typical
    Danish country church.

The Mother and baby are at the piano accompanying the rest of the family, who go around the Christmas tree, singing the traditional Christmas carols. The Christmas tree is decorated with living candles and a star at the top, as is almost all Danish Christmas trees.

Part of Greenland, as for instance Thule, lies north of the Arctic Circle, and has arctic nights for 4 months every year.  The length of the day during winter varies as to which part of Greenland we are talking about, but in every place in Greenland, days are short in winter.

    country house. In front of the house, the fur tree is decorated with lights as it is still a tradition in Denmark to brighten the dark time of year. The guests bringing Christmas presents arrive in a snow covered landscape and they are received in the door by their family.

    Christmas in the Village
    1974 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate depicts, as the title of the plate tells, Christmas in the Village. The plate was designed by Henry Thelander. Christmas begins in the afternoon of December 24th, when the villagers arrive at the village church to hear the Christmas service. In the foreground of the plate we see the village pond with two mute swans, one of the birds which stay in Denmark during wintertime. The mute swan was elected national bird of Denmark in 1984.

The first water mills date back to around the 12th century, and they were, prior to the introduction of the steam engine, the most important source of energy in Denmark.

    This motif is from Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. We see the Round Tower in the
    background. This tower was designed by Hans van Steenwinckel Jr. for king Christian IV, and
    it was built 1637-1642, as the first part of the Trinity complex.  At the top of the tower, which is 34.8 m above street level, is an observatory.  This building is still today visited by numerous Danish as well as foreign tourists every year.

    1979 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Henry Thelander,depicts almost every Dane's dreams, white Christmas, which is also the title of the plate. The scene is a nostalgic retrospect of Christmas in the old days in a Danish village.
    On one side of the street we find the village baker and on the other the village grocer. The children of the village are looking through the window at the grocery store's Christmas display, and a family are on their way home from Christmas shopping. In the background we see one of Denmark's numerous windmills.

    1980 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate designed by Henry Thelander, depicts the animals of the Danish forests near a feeder at Christmas time. The title of the plate is Christmas in the Woods.
    Denmark is often covered in ice and snow in winter and its is therefore a tradition to feed the wild animals because it is difficult for them to find food. The plate depicts the deer, which is one of the most common wild animals in Denmark, and the population is increasing.
    1981 Bing & Grondahl Christmas Peace, designed by Henry Thelander, depicts, like the plate
    from 1980, feeding of wild animals at winter time. In this instance, the resident birds' are fed with sheaves of grain by a little girl. The title of the plate is Christmas Peace.
    As is the case with large animals, it is difficult for the birds in the gardens to find food in the winter, and it is therefore tradition to feed them either with sheafs of grain or with grain in a little bird table.
