The optics are near mint and super clear; rare for one of this age to survive this well. The 4mm has very good cosmetics and does show standard use, but it is far from abuse or heavy use. Optics are excellent clean, however, the top element needs to be reset at the correct angle. I cannot do it because I do not have the tool necessary for loosening the retaining ring. Not a mission impossible issue, but it needs to be approached with the correct tools.

    Description

This auction is for a 3-piece set (you get all three eyepieces in this auction) of 1965-1971 Sears (Towa of Japan) .965-inch 22mm kellner, 9mm huygens mittenzwey, and 4mm symmetrical ramsden eyepieces from both a 6335 and 6344 equatorial refractor. These eyepieces would also be included with most years of the 6305-A refractor.
Though at this time Sears was still manufacturing their telescopes from (+) Royal Astro of Japan, (T) Towa of Japan was supplying some of the optics for their porro prisms and/or eyepieces and barlows.
Interestingly, the "JAPAN" stamps located on the inside baffle indicate these are (+) Royal Astros. If these were Towas, which can be and ARE identical to the weight, the "JAPAN" stamp would be super tiny and located on the chrome barrel towards the base. In the case of these eyepieces, these are genuine Towas.
For collector's reference, the Sears eyepiece color-to-focal lengths are as follows:
    Green 22mm kellner
    Yellow 20mm kellner
    Silver 12.5mm huygens mittenzwey
    Pale Blue 9mm huygens mittenzwey
    Baby Blue 8mm huygens mittenzwey
    Red 6mm huygens mittenzwey
    Black 4mm symmetrical ramsden
All these eyepieces are threaded for filters and will work with virtually ANY moon or color filter from any nation.
The 22mm kellners were some of the best low power eyepieces in the 1" class money could attain back in the day. The green 22mm was the lowest power and generally only came with the advanced Sears refractors; not the smaller entry level ones. One thing unique with Sears was their color-coded system. If you were lucky, you'd get the whole set with the big, very rare 6345 with its Unitron-quality 5 ocular turret. And depending on the model and the year, some were more frequent than others; although the yellow K20 is the hardest to land.
If we include the last years of the noble Sears refractors, we could also include the Black 21mm Kellner, which was then by Towa and included with upper crust Jasons, Penncrests, and A&Fs.
The 22mm kellner gives a 34-degree field of view with very long eye relief. Solid brass and aluminum construction. Weighs 1.6 ounces. It is best used in refractors of f/9 or longer and in reflectors of f/8 or longer.
The 9mm huygens mittenzwey has a 36-degree field of view with tight, but not impractical, eye relief. Solid brass and aluminum construction. Weighs 1.3 ounces. It can give amazing views of the Moon and brightest planets in refractors and cassegrains over f/12.
The 4mm symmetrical ramsden gives a 38-degree field of view with tight eye relief. Solid brass and aluminum construction. Weighs 1.2 ounces. It will do very well on the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus in f/13 or slower systems.
    Packed with great care.
