Howe appeared in 497 games (all in relief), with a record of 47-41, 91 saves, and a 3.03 ERA. He was the N.L. 1980 ROY, with a 7-9 record, 2.66 ERA, and 17 saves in 59 games. He made the All-Star team in 1982, and had a career high 18 saves in 1983. He appeared in 1 ALDS, 1 NLDS, 1 NLCS, & 1 W.S., with a 1-0 record, and 1 save in 9 games. Howe was suspended for drug use by MLB 7 times, and on 7-24-92 was permanently banned  after pleading guilty to cocaine use., but it was overturned by an arbitrator in November 92. He was killed in a one vehicle accident on 4-28-06, when his pick-up truck overturned, while he was driving in Coachella, Ca. He was not wearing a seat belt. A toxicology report determined he had methamphetamine in his system.  He was only 48.
