    Description

    Cuban born Antonio "Tony" Taylor (Sanchez) (1935-2020) was a right-handed hitting utility player (primarily a 2nd baseman), who played in the majors for 19 seasons for the Cubs (1958-1960), Phillies (1960-1971 & 1974-1976), and Tigers (1971-1973). He played in 2195 games, hitting .261, with 2007 hits, 75 HRs, 598 RBIs, and 234 stolen bases.Taylor was a 1960 All-Star, while hitting .284, with 5 HRs, 44 RBIs, and career high 26 stolen bases, and in 1963, finished 16th in MVP, while hitting .281, with 5 HRs, 49 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases. He played in the 1972 ALCS for the Tigers, hitting .133 in 4 games, and after his playing days, Taylor coached for the Phillies (1977-1979 & 1988-1989), and Marlins (1999-2004). In 2002, he was added to the Phillies Wall of Fame.
