    Description

    Vern Olsen (1918-1989)  was a left-handed pitcher for the Chicago Cubs for 5 seasons (1939-1942 & 1946), serving in the Navy (1943-1945). He pitched in 112 games, with a record of 30-26, 7 shut-outs, 2 saves, and a 3.40 ERA. He was a career best 13-9 with 4 shut-outs, and a 2.97 ERA in 1940. When Olsen was discharged from the Navy, and returned to the Cubs in 1946, he developed a sore arm, and was released by the Cubs.
