Willie Mays Jr (b.1931), known as "The Say Hey Kid" was and is one of the greatest ball-players in major league history. A right-handed hitting center-fielder, Mays played 3 seasons in the Negro Leagues for the Birmingham Black Barons (1948-1950), and 23 seasons in the majors for the NY/S/F Giants (1951-1952 & 1954-1972), and Mets (1972-1973). He served in the Korean War (1953). Mays had his #24 retired by the Giants in 1972, and was inducted into the HOF in 1979. Among his many accomplishments in his long career, Mays was a 2-time N.L. MVP, 1952 N.L. T.O.Y., 12-time gold glove winner, 20-time All-Star, 1954 batting champion, 4-time season leader in HRs, with career high 52 in 1965, led the league 3-times in triples, and had 10 seasons of 100+ RBIs, and on 4-30-61, hit 4 HRs in a game against the Braves, and holds the major league record for most HRs in extra inning games, with 22, and in put-outs by a center-fielder with 7,095. He played in 3005 games, hitting .301, with 3293 hits, 660 HRs, 1909 RBIs, and 338 stolen bases (leading the league 4-times, with career high 40 in 1956). Mays is the God-father of Barry Bonds.
